Substitute Teaching

For our second side hustle in the teaching category, we encourage you to check out substitute teaching in your area. The hours for this one are a little more restricted, since you need to be able to teach during the week and sometimes for a full day, but if you love children and love teaching this can be a very rewarding side hustle for you.  Usually the requirements to be a substitute teacher are not that difficult to fulfill. You do need a bachelor’s degree, but you don’t need a teaching degree.

If somebody takes sick day at an office, it’s usually not that big of a deal. And they might even be able to get some work done remotely. But, if a teacher has to take a sick day, there is still a whole class of students who are going to show up and expect to be taught. Often, schools are short on substitute teachers and this makes the job of finding work in this field even easier. The first thing to do would be to make up a resume with your work experience and include anything related to teaching or being in charge of kids. You don’t have to have classroom teaching experience, but if you have some tutoring experience or even experience teaching Sunday School classes it can help. This can be a flexible income source which is why it’s on our Side Hustle Master List.

What to prepare for

If you’ve never substitute taught before, there are a couple things to prepare for. There will be a lot of attention on you whole day. It’s a little bit different than the attention of coworkers or customers. When you’ve got a room full of kids to teach, they are looking to you to lead them. And if you are unable to do that, their attention can start slipping away. Once you lose control of the classroom, it can be a hard to get it back. But if you’ve worked with kids before, you know this and are already prepared for this job. If you’re thinking about going after this side hustle, check these links out:
