One tactic that you can use is to design a logo based around the job that you want and use it as your portfolio item. If somebody needs a cleanly designed logo for a dentist’s website, just take a couple of hours and create a mock logo for a doctor’s website. This will get you in the door and then you can start using real work you’ve done for clients to get the next jobs.
